A Tuscaloosa Evening of African Film will be presented at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013. The event, which is sponsored by UA's College of Community Health Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Gender and Race Studies, begins with a reception at 6 p.m. where African art, crafts and other products will be available for purchase. Three movies will be shown beginning at 7 p.m. The first movie is the 2011 "Farewell Exile," a 15-minute film set in Morocco that focuses on south and north migration. The second movie is the 90-minute, 2010 critically acclaimed "Africa United," which presents a powerful message about HIV prevention. The third movie is a 70-minute film, "Monica Wangu Wamere – The Unbroken Spirit," set in modern day Kenya and about courage, determination and a mother's unconditional love. Tickets are $10 ($6 for students) and are available in advance and online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/index.html, and at the Bama Theatre box office the day of the event.
