The opening reception for the Paul R. Jones latest exhibit, "Migration/s" will be on March 7 from 5:30-7:30 at the Jones Gallery located at 2308 6th Street. At 6 p.m. Dr. Utz McKnight, an associate professor in UA's department of political science and chair of UA's department of gender and race studies, will give a gallery talk titled, "Art, Diaspora and The Politics of Migration."
Using selections from the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at The University of Alabama, "Migration/s," investigates how artists have reflected upon the history of African American experiences in the wake of the Great Migration (loosely dated from around 1915 to 1970) as well as upon more expansive historical and contemporary, local and global, and national and international migrations.
This event is part of is part of "Through the Doors," a year-long series of activities and events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of UA in 1963 and honoring the courage and dedication of the two African American students who enrolled in the University on June 11, 1963 as well as the University's ongoing commitment to change over the past 50 years and to continued progress in the future. Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday 12 to 8 p.m.
