Amy Holmes-Tagchungdarpa, Department of History Assistant Professor, will give a lecture titled, "Gendering the Public Sphere: Tibetan Women as Consumers in 'The Tibet Mirror' Newspaper 1925-1963" as part of the Brown Bag Lecture Series sponsored by the Department of Gender and Race Studies, the Women's Resource Center, the Womn's Studies program, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
This lecture will reveal the ways in which a historical Tibetan newspaper disrupted cultural norms and knowledge. The review of historical cultural and social networks in Tibet Mirror represents an important moment in Tibetan feminist history, as women became visible in the printed public sphere, and new potential histories emerge from their visibility.
